DOLOMITI SUPERSKI

A Story Born in the Dolomites, Reaching the World

November 14, 1974 marks a defining moment in the history of alpine skiing and Italian tourism. On that day, representatives of the lift consortia of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Plan de Corones, Alta Badia, Val Gardena – Alpe di Siusi, Val di Fassa – Carezza, and Arabba signed the founding charter of what was then called the Superski Dolomiti Association, before a notary in Brunico (BZ).

With that signature, an innovative project came to life, one that would transform the way mountain destinations are experienced and managed: bringing together different ski areas under one shared vision and enhancing the region through cooperation.

From a Pioneering Vision to an International Model

The idea took shape thanks to the vision of Erich Kostner, a lift pioneer from Corvara in Badia, who quickly involved fellow operators from neighboring valleys. His concept was simple yet groundbreaking: grow stronger together through collaboration.

What began with six Dolomite valleys gradually expanded over the decades, reaching its current configuration in 2000 with the addition of Marmolada, an iconic symbol of the Dolomites and their extraordinary uniqueness.

Leadership and Continuity

The newly formed consortium appointed Gianni Marzola, a Milanese entrepreneur who made Val Gardena his home, as its first President. He held the position for 26 years, playing a decisive role in the growth and consolidation of Superski Dolomiti.

From 1979 to 2012, the consortium also benefited from the leadership of Franz Perathoner, its first General Director, a key figure in the organizational and operational development of the system.

A Benchmark for the Region

Today, Superski Dolomiti is internationally recognized as a benchmark of excellence in the lift and tourism industry.
More than fifty years after its foundation, it continues to play a central role in the economic, social and tourism development of the Provinces of Bolzano, Trento, and Belluno, promoting a sustainable growth model built on collaboration, innovation, and respect for the territory.
